What Is SkinPen?

How does SkinPen work?
Immediately following an injury, our skin begins the process of dissolving tissue damage and replacing it with new cells. Micro needling allows for controlled induction of the skin's self-repair process by creating precise, micro injuries in the skin to automatically trigger new collagen synthesis without causing scar tissue formation. The micro injuries also create channels that allow product to penetrate deeper into the skin, resulting in better product efficacy.

What is the downtime and what side effects should I expect?
Similar to mild sunburn, redness, swelling and tenderness may follow the procedure, but patients can expect no significant downtime with SkinPen. After just one day, patients may return to normal activities and are able to conceal most of the signs of treatment with makeup. Within days, there will be no evidence that any treatment was performed at all.
When will I see results?
Many patients notice healthier looking skin immediately. However, the natural repair process of your own skin continues to progress over the course of several weeks. Keep in mind dermal collagen remodeling takes place over time. Damage that has occurred over an extensive period of time won’t disappear immediately. You may not see the final result for up to 3-6 months following your final session.
How many treatments are recommended?
The number of treatments required will be determined by your skincare professional based upon your individual treatment goals and the health of your skin. Most patients receive a series of 5 treatments spaced about 4 weeks apart. For patients with deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks or acne scars, 6-8 sessions at 4-6 week intervals are usually recommended. Your provider will develop a maintenance plan to help maintain the rejuvenating effects.
Do I have to use a certain product line with SkinPen?
You can use any product line of your choice about 2-3 days after treatments. Please consult your skincare professional on which products will best aid in achieving optimal results.
Can I wear make-up immediately following a procedure?
Patients typically can resume their normal makeup regimen 2-3 days following their SkinPen treatment depending on the area and type of treatment performed.
Can I get a SkinPen treatment if I'm pregnant?
SkinPen is not recommended for pregnant women because the micro needles produce micro injuries to the skin, which naturally causes a repair process to begin. This healing process and production of new collagen requires vitamins and nutrients to be utilized that would otherwise be reserved for the unborn child.
Is there anyone who should not use SkinPen?
SkinPen should not be used in patients with history of keloid scars, scleroderma, collagen vascular diseases, cardiac abnormalities, hemorrhagic disorders, hemostatic dysfunction or an active bacterial or fungal infection.
