Low Level Laser Therapy

What is Cold Laser Therapy or Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT)?

Cold laser, also known as Low-level Light Therapy (LLLT), is a non-invasive special type of amplified light that has the ability to penetrate deep into the tissue where it stimulates the individual cell, just like the sunlight provides energy to plants through photosynthesis. The cells absorb the energy from the laser light strengthening the body's natural repair processes and immune system. This allows the body to quickly heal injuries, infections, and other various types of ailments.

Can you Describe What The Process of Using LLLT is Like?

LLLT using a cold laser is a non-invasive, painfree therapy.  The cold laser’s light source is placed in contact with the skin allowing the photon energy to penetrate tissue resulting in the restoration of normal cell function and enhancement of the body’s healing processes.  A patient may feel a little warmth from the light, but not always.  The laser also vibrates every 10-30 seconds to notify patients that it is on and running, which helps to relax patients during the treatment.

LLLT has cumulative benefits and requires recurring stimulation in order to promote healing.  Typically 5-20 treatments varying from 10-15 minutes in duration are required.  At Herb + Ohm, we follow up Cold Laser with the use of infrared heat for 15 minutes to help warm and relax patients, increase circulation and facilitate healing.

Are There Any Contraindications to LLLT?

Research to date has failed to record any negative effects from this process.  It should be noted that normally functioning cells are not adversely affected by the irradiation.  In contrast to other therapies, Low Intensity Laser Therapy is curative rather than simply modulating symptomatology.  After treatment the patient may have an exacerbation of pain for a varying period of time, generally 24-48 hours.  If this occurs, one can utilize over the counter pain medication such as Aleve or ice and let their practioner know prior to the next treatment.

“Amy at Herb + Ōhm has been tremendous!”

“Amy is a true professional and such a pleasure to work with, as she personalizes each of her services to client’s needs and goals. I came to Herb + Ōhm for preventative skin care. I am 27, but wanted to try SkinPen to help start an anti-aging regimen. I really loved the results I saw with the treatments and I feel like my skin looks smoother, more even and the fine lines have become less noticeable. my experience with Herb + Ōhm was exceptional.”
