Micro-what now? What is Microneedling?

Simple + Profound

Yes, you can rebuild your collagen with a painless & easy technique

Microneedling-also known as collagen induction therapy (CIT)—is a procedure that improves the appearance of wrinkles, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, pore size and stretch marks by stimulating your skin’s natural ability to repair itself.

Using tiny needles to create hundreds of micro-channels in the superficial layers of the skin microneedling is an incredibly potent skincare technique. In response, your body releases growth factors and cytokines, which trigger the skin-healing process. During this process, the body produces more collagen—a fibrous protein that contributes to the structural integrity of the skin—resulting in thicker, smoother more youthful-appearing skin. The micro-channels also allow topical skincare products to penetrate your skin more deeply, so the products work better.

How does microneedling work?

At Herb + Ōhm, micro-needling is performed using SkinPen—a medical-grade, state-of-the-art micro-needling tool available only through medical professionals. SkinPen is used to treat small facial areas or large body surfaces. The treatment typically takes about 30-45 minutes, depending on the size and number of areas treated and the degree of treatment requested by the patient.

The SkinPen needle depth adjusts from .25 mm up to 2 mm, allowing the provider to tailor the treatments to the patient’s particular anatomy (skin thickness) as well as his or her needs. SkinPen’s variable needle depth makes it more versatile than traditional rollers, and it can be used efficiently on many parts of the body, including face, neck, décolletage, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back. This makes it particularly useful for aiding in the reduction of fine lines, wrinkles, scars (acne, trauma, surgical) and stretch marks.

Does it hurt + is there downtime?

A topical anesthetic is typically applied prior to a microneedling treatment. This allows for a comfortable experience for the patient. The patient will typically leave the office with mild to moderate redness and slight swelling in the treated area. This usually resolves by the following morning. You can resume your normal makeup routine one to two days after your treatment. You won’t have to take time off work or cover your face until your skin heals.

At Herb + Ōhm, we offer our microneedling clients the resources, aftercare products and support they need to ensure patient comfort during and after the procedure.

The Top 4 Reasons to Try Microneedling

Micro-needling is a safe, comfortable procedure that improves the appearance of wrinkles, acne scars and stretch marks. Here are four reasons to give micro-needling a try:

Micro-needling doesn’t hurt. An anesthetic cream applied to your skin before the procedure numbs the area, so you barely feel the needles penetrate. Most people describe the sensation as feeling a bit like a gentle stroking with sandpaper.

No elaborate veiling, sunglasses or hats required!

You won’t look scary after micro-needling. Micro-needling requires little downtime. With SkinPen, most patients experience slight swelling and pinkness/redness (like a mild sunburn) that usually resolves within 24 hours. You can resume your normal makeup routine one to two days after your treatment. You won’t have to take time off work or cover your face until your skin heals.
